Lyn Dunbar

Lyn works at the Warehouse regularly and also teaches Thursdays Teddy Bear class, which can get quite rowdy at times and always has lots of laughs. She also has designed our range of bags and is branching into quilts, so watch out for her new designs coming soon. Lyn gives us a look into her journey leading to designing.
Lyn says;
"My sewing career started at school which I disliked with a passion. I didn't enjoy sewing until my mother-in-law taught me to sew my own clothes. After my daughter Emma was born I started sewing for her which I found more enjoyable, but of course when she grew older she wanted bought clothes just like her friends. During this time I retired after 25 years in the workforce. I continued sewing for my daughter but this wasn't enough, so my friend introduced me to applique which turned into a small wallhanging and was never hung! I didn't know what I was looking for so I went to a class to learn how to make teddy bears, after I made my first bear I vowed I would never make another one, until a friend talked me into just one more. I still wasn't satisfied, by this time I was doing embroidery, cross-stitching, knitting and appliqueing. My first quilt was a nine patch with hearts which took 5 years to complete, by this time I had quite a stash of fabrics and I had completed a few more quilt tops, but not quilted any. I was starting to have the patchworkers nightmare UFO'S! A few friends and I got together to sew and called ourselves "The Baker Street Girls", this is where I started to create bags, dolls and quilts etc, looking for the next challenge. I couldn't stop thinking about what I could be designing, by now I was teaching the bear making class. My years of quilting lead to my passion for making bags, I have made so many my friends call me "The Bag Lady", so I started to design and create patterns. Finally I had found my passion!"
